Silver Way (II), Winter Way, Silver Way in Portugal

The Silver Way (II), the Winter Way and the Silver Way in Portugal are three Jacobean routes that serve as alternatives to the main Silver Way and French Way paths, starting from various locations in the provinces of Zamora and Leon. They gradually converge as they enter Galicia, heading northwest and traversing outstanding natural landscapes such as the Sanabria region, the Sil valley, and Montesinho Natural Park.

The Silver Way has been one of the Iberian Peninsula's major thoroughfares since time immemorial. This specific route is the variant known as the Sanabrian Way, which heads directly from Granja de Moreruela to Santiago de Compostela. It crosses the provinces of Zamora, Orense, Pontevedra and La Coruña, passing through the city of Orense. Also noteworthy is a variant of this route that passes through Verin, as well as its intersections with other routes coming from Portugal.

The Winter Way is an alternative to the French Way that, starting in Ponferrada, heads toward the Sil River valley and connects with the Galician variant of the Silver Way near Bendoiro. It is a historic route that pilgrims traditionally followed during the coldest months of the year to avoid the Cebrero mountain pass, choosing it for its milder climate, as it traverses the provinces of Leon, Orense, Lugo and Pontevedra.

The Silver Way in Portugal is a variant of the Silver Way that cuts across Portuguese territory as a shortcut, offering a compelling blend of history and cross-border significance. Both its starting point in Zamora and its destination in Laza lie along the Silver Way itself, the latter on its Galician variant. It crosses the provinces of Zamora and Orense as well as the districts of Bragança and Vila Real, with the city of Bragança serving as a key landmark along the way. The Metro Chart of the Silver Way (II), Winter Way and Silver Way in Portugal is designed to be printed as an 83x30 cm poster.
