Portuguese Way from Tuy, Portuguese Coastal Way, Arosa Sea & Ulla River Route, Coastal Way in Portugal

The Portuguese Way from Tuy, the Portuguese Coastal Way, the Arosa Sea & Ulla River Route, and the Coastal Way in Portugal are short-distance Jacobean routes that form part of the network of Ways of Saint James across Galicia and northern Portugal. They follow a south-to-north trajectory, passing through the districts of Porto, Braga and Viana do Castelo on the Portuguese side, and running close to the Rias Bajas coast between the provinces of Pontevedra and Coruña on the Spanish side. These routes are extensions or variants of other, longer ways originating in Portugal.

The Portuguese Way from Tuy is the continuation into Spain of the Portuguese Central Way, the main Jacobean route coming from Portugal. It begins in Tuy, at the bridge over the Miño River that marks the border between Portugal and Spain, and traverses the provinces of Pontevedra and La Coruña to Santiago de Compostela, passing through the city of Pontevedra.

The Portuguese Coastal Way continues the path of Jacobean routes coming from Portugal along the Atlantic coast. After crossing the mouth of the Miño River by boat, the route begins in Camposancos and runs along the coastline of Pontevedra province, passing through Vigo and ending in Redondela, where it joins the Portuguese Way from Tuy.

The Arosa Sea & Ulla River Route has two land-based branches that run along both shores of the Arosa Estuary: one from Aguiño in the north and another from Cambados in the south. Both branches converge in Isorna and continue to Padron, where they join the Portuguese Way from Tuy. There are also two maritime variants that depart from the ports of Villanueva and Villagarcia, traveling through the Arosa Estuary and up the Ulla River channel to Pontecesures. Finally, the Spiritual Variant is a detour from the Portuguese Way from Tuy. It begins shortly after Pontevedra and ends in Villanueva de Arosa.

The Coastal Way in Portugal sets out from the city of Porto, heading towards the coast as an alternative to the Central Way. It passes through key coastal towns in the districts of Porto, Braga and Viana do Castelo, eventually reaching Valença, at the international bridge over the Miño River, where it connects with the Portuguese Way from Tuy. A major highlight of the route is passing through the city of Viana do Castelo.
