Way from Barcelona to San Juan de la Peña, Catalan Way

The Way from Barcelona to San Juan de la Peña and the Catalan Way are two routes of the Way of Saint James originating in Catalonia, both centering on the Monastery of Santa Maria de Montserrat. The former starts in Barcelona and heads northwest, eventually linking up with the French Way near the Monastery of San Juan de la Peña. The latter is a network of routes that begin at various points, traverse the Catalan inland to converge at Montserrat, and then follow a shared section that connects to the Ebro Way.

The Way from Barcelona to San Juan de la Peña sets out from Barcelona and, in its initial stage, heads toward Montserrat, the spiritual heart of Catalonia. It subsequently shares a stretch with the Catalan Way as far as Tarrega before veering northwest to join the French Way at Santa Cilia, after passing San Juan de la Peña. The route crosses the provinces of Barcelona, Lerida and Huesca, passing through the city of Huesca.

The Catalan Way via Vich and Manresa is the main trunk route of the Catalan Way, that can be started at Puerto de la Selva or Le Perthus, on the French border. From Gerona, it cuts across the Catalan inland to Montserrat and then continues westward to Pina de Ebro, sharing a section with the Way from Barcelona to San Juan de la Peña. It traverses the provinces of Gerona, Barcelona, Lerida, Huesca and Zaragoza, passing through the cities of Gerona and Lerida.

The Catalan Way via Tarrasa is a variant of the Catalan Way that begins in Gerona and ends at Montserrat, that runs closer to the coast and follows a gentler terrain than the main route. It crosses the provinces of Gerona and Barcelona, passing through towns of significant size and population. The Catalan Way from Barcelona is a short branch of the Catalan Way that begins in the city of Barcelona and ends at the Monastery of Montserrat, largely following the course of the Llobregat River and running entirely within the province of Barcelona.
