English Way, Finisterre & Mugia Way
The English Way and the Finisterre & Mugia Way are two short Jacobean routes that form part of the network of the Ways of Saint James in Galicia, running entirely within the province of La Coruña. In the first instance, Santiago de Compostela is the destination, whereas in the second it is the starting point, making it possible to complete one route immediately after the other.
The English Way takes its name from the fact that it was historically the route followed by pilgrims arriving from the British Isles after disembarking at major Galician ports. The longer variant begins in Ferrol and the shorter one in La Coruña, and both converge at Bruma before continuing along a shared section to Santiago de Compostela.
The Finisterre & Mugia Way serves as an epilogue to the Way of Saint James pilgrimage, heading west from there to the coast, a place considered the "end of the world" during the Middle Ages. After an initial stretch to Dumbria, the route splits toward its separate destinations in Finisterre and Mugia. There is also an additional connecting section between Finisterre and Mugia that can be walked in either direction.
